CARE started its operations in Zimbabwe as CARE International in Zimbabwe (CIZ) in 1992. CIZ is registered with the Ministry of Local government in Zimbabwe as a private voluntary organisation. Since its establishment, CIZ has worked in most of the Zimbabwe’s 10 administrative provinces implementing programs focused on Gender Equality including Education; Right to food, water and nutrition; Climate change and adaptation; Humanitarian action; Health; and Women’s economic empowerment.
CIZ works with the most vulnerable women and girls (while engaging men and boys) in Zimbabwe to reduce poverty through development initiatives and humanitarian action. We particularly focus on empowering women and girls, increasing food security and resilience, and responding to emergencies when they strike. Investing in water infrastructure is also critical in the face of recurrent droughts gripping large swaths of the country and the wider region.
We integrate several cross-cutting themes into all programming, including HIV/AIDS; child protection; gender integration; and partnerships to enhance and develop meaningful collaboration with a range of local authorities, the private sector and civil society for maximum benefit of poor communities.
